Overview

The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is Nepal's most popular short trek — a 5-day route from Nayapul through Gurung and Magar villages and thick rhododendron forest to Ghorepani, from where a pre-dawn climb up Poon Hill (3,210 m) rewards you with one of the widest mountain panoramas in Nepal, stretching from Dhaulagiri to Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre. Well-graded stone stairways and frequent teahouses make it suitable for first-time trekkers, families with older children, and anyone short on time who still wants an authentic Himalayan sunrise.

Trip Highlights

  • 360° sunrise panorama from Poon Hill over Annapurna & Dhaulagiri
  • Spectacular rhododendron forest, Nepal's national flower (best in March–April)
  • Gurung and Magar hill villages
  • Well-maintained trails suitable for beginners and families
  • Short enough for a long weekend from Kathmandu

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek — FAQs

Yes — it is one of the few Himalayan treks we comfortably recommend for families with children aged 8 and up, given the moderate daily walking hours and low maximum altitude.
